DURNESS GOLF CLUB

The most North Westerly Course on mainland Britain

Durness Golf Course is 20 years old so is now well established as a golfing destination not to be missed on any visit to Scotland.

The picture below shows the view over the closing hole which has been made famous by Peter Alliss when in 1996 he played it and featured it in his TV program  " Travels with Alliss".

In the corner of the picture you can see the Clubhouse which is strategically placed to offer panoramic views over the final hole and indeed Balnakeil Bay and the surrounding area. It is the ideal place to sit, relax and ponder over your round or simply wait for your friends to finish theirs. All golfers and their friends are welcome to use the facilities which include changing rooms and toilets and tea and coffee making facilities. Soup, bacon rolls, sandwiches etc. are also available throughout the season.

Each of the 9 holes on the course offer different views and different challenges and with a different set of tees for holes 10 to 18 the views stay the same but the challenges change slightly giving a real 18 hole feel.

Picture below is the Par 5 6th.(15th.) hole where the main challenge is to avoid the water hazards!

And here we have the golf ball's view of the challenge ahead as it tries to avoid the "Atlantic Ocean" on its way to the final green.
