Monday 8th. February 2010 The Alliance fixture in Golspie was abandoned due to snow and frost prior to Sunday. This meant with our course well playable we were able to hold the February Medal ! John Morrison (Tico) won with a Nett 67, Lawrence Macleod had 69 and Martin Mackay had 70. 10 golfers took part. All these Alliance cancellations mean there is a big backlog and the latest dates are : 14th. Feb - Wick ; 21st. Feb - Brora ; 28th. Feb - Golspie ; 7th. March - Tarbet and 21st. March - Reay. A few more "birdies" were notched up yesterday and a few Winter League scores were completed, so there is now serious competition for the "Pot of Gold" at the end of the rainbow Sunday 31st. January 2010 So we did get the Sheigra Open played last Sunday and Alisdair McCowan became the first winner of 2010 when he scored 39 stableford points. A very credible 22 points on the back 9 assured he finished ahead of Donna Mackinnon (who also had 39 points, 20 on the back 9), Gary Macleod ( 36pts) and Billy McBain (36pts). 12 players took part in favourable conditions which was an average turnout given the circumstances. Now the weather has again affected the Winter Alliance and the latest dates are 7th. Feb - Golspie, 14th. Feb - Wick, 21st. Feb - Brora, 7th March - Tarbet, 21st. March - Reay. After last weeks scores were entered in our own Winter League things look pretty interesting with several players in contention if they can finish the stipulated rounds by the end of March. There were also a few more birdies notched up which will feature on the "Birdie Tree". Countryside Ranger, Donald Mitchell is working on the "construction" of this at present ! Sunday 17th. January 2010. Well at long last the course is playable again ! Is that the longest spell in the history of the Club that has been "ungolfable". I think so ; it is certainly the longest I've been without a club in my hand, so was pleasantly surprised when out playing today to find that the ball will still go forwards !! The sheep are on, a wee bit messy, but the first of the fences are in place so the greens shouldn't get any worse. Otherwise the course is looking and playing fine for this time of year. With that in mind, and also taking into account the Alliance won't restart until Jan 31st. in Wick, the "SHEIGRA OPEN" will take place on Sunday 24th. weather permitting ofcourse. Winter League scores were being filled in regularly up until mid December, some very good I might add, so hopefully we can get down to concluding that before the end of March. The "Eclectic" scoresheet also makes for interesting reading so keep it up !! |
